Production Readiness Audit: v0.0.1

Date: 2026-08-09

Pull request: #2

Code commit reviewed: c55cf51

Decision: ready to merge, then ready to enter the release-PR gate after master CI succeeds. The release is not complete until the v0.0.1 tag has published all expected assets and the published-artifact checks pass.

Scope

This audit covers the v0.0.1 configurable default-timezone work, retained zero-configuration UTC behavior, system timezone detection, the complete CLI and MCP surfaces, documentation, installer, packaging, release automation, and supply-chain controls.

Findings Resolved

  • System timezone detection now handles Linux, macOS, Windows, POSIX zoneinfo paths, and posix/ or right/ tzdata variants while validating the result against the IANA database.
  • Unmappable POSIX TZ rules fail explicitly instead of silently choosing a different timezone.
  • Explicit CLI/MCP timezone inputs retain precedence, including the MCP empty list contract that means UTC.
  • Environment overrides work even when configuration is invalid; an explicitly empty config list wins over the singular setting.
  • Only commands that consume defaults read the config, structured errors remain clean, and MCP re-resolves defaults per call without failing server startup.
  • Linux, Intel and Apple Silicon macOS, and Windows release builds exercise system timezone smoke coverage in CI.
  • Release preparation now checks the selected master base before branching, and preparation, tagging, and publishing all reject mismatched Cargo package and lockfile versions.
  • Version metadata, changelog, public docs, and release instructions now target v0.0.1 without rewriting the historical v0.0.0 audit record.

Validation Evidence

  • Rust formatting and warning-free clippy checks passed.
  • All 174 Rust tests passed with locked dependencies and all features.
  • Documentation built successfully in strict mode.
  • Dependency policy and vulnerability audit checks passed.
  • All 22 public CLI command paths passed binary smoke coverage.
  • All 15 MCP tools passed through both stdio and streamable HTTP transports.
  • Release packaging, checksum verification, installer, shell completions, and installed-binary smoke checks passed locally.
  • Linux x86_64, Windows x86_64, macOS arm64, and macOS x86_64 PR build jobs passed on GitHub Actions.
  • A final uncommitted-change review reported no actionable findings before the release metadata commit.

Post-Merge Release Gate

After PR #2 merges:

  1. Confirm required master checks and the docs build are green.
  2. Dispatch Prepare Release for 0.0.1 from master.
  3. Review and merge the generated release/0.0.1 PR after its checks pass.
  4. Confirm the tag workflow creates v0.0.1 and the release workflow succeeds.
  5. Verify the published checksums and assets, then run the installer and MCP stdio/HTTP smoke tests against the published binary.

Release Decision

No known code, documentation, packaging, security, or automation blocker remains in PR #2. It is merge-ready once its updated checks pass. Post-merge it is release-candidate ready; final release readiness still depends on the separate release PR, tag, publication workflow, and published-artifact verification above.
